Queen's Park v Hamilton

Queen's took on a very strong Hamilton side that have always proved tough opposition for us over the last few years and Saturday was not any different.

The coaches felt after last weeks game where we dominated the full game both in goals and possession, the squad needed another opportunity to match up against another club with a successful and recognised youth policy like our own.

Again the squad was rotated giving everyone equal playing time and I'm not sure if this was the reason why we never really came out of the blocks like we did the week before.

Out of the three periods we felt the kids really only competed in the second period when we came right back into the game with a well taken goal from a brave header.

Looking back, we never really had much in the way of goal scoring opportunities and subsequently we lost soft goals from set pieces where Hamilton always looked dangerous and as such, thoroughly deserved their victory.

All in all Queen's, I felt, were a bit flat all round and the boys will need to dig deeper in these types of games and match better oppositions ability to keep the ball better and ultimately want the ball whilst being put under pressure. Again this is something that can be worked on as a group and with the attitude that the kids continue to show in training, it is another piece in their ability jigsaws that will improve with hard work and repetition.
