Today Queen's played against a very strong Killie side who fielded their regular SPL squad. Kilmarnock were very sharp and moved the ball well all over the pitch. This gave our inexperienced players a good physical work out as it’s all about improving the fitness of the players and match sharpness.
This squad have recently moved up from 7 a side football to 11 a side and struggled to cope with the movement and technical ability of the opposition in most areas of the field and the warm day took it’s toll on the overall performance of our players.
The first period was dominated by Killie who looked the sharper of the 2 sides and with some good patterns of play made Queen's chase the ball for long spells. Scott White, in goal, made several good saves in the first period that kept the score line respectable.
We asked the players to up the tempo of their game second period and they played much better and competed well which made it more of a game.
The third period saw our legs go and Killie were pressing our goal with numerous attempts at goal.
The coaches commented 'We were pleased with the effort of the players and have a challenging season ahead but look forward to developing the current squad in the coming months'.
