The 13s played host to St Johnstone today at a very warm sunny Williamwood High school astro pitch in their third league game of the season. The lads were looking forward to the match as was the coaching staff from both teams.
The first period was a very even affair with both teams struggling with their passing and decision making in the final third. The heat made the pitch harder to control the ball. There wasn't much in the way of clear chances as both teams more or less cancelled each other out without really testing either goal keeper.
The second period was better as the coaches asked the boys to move the ball quicker and to use the width of the pitch to good effect. James Beattie and Jay Sim were causing the opposition problems with their link up play and direct running. Louie Brodie and Stephen Caw were linking on the right flank and and Jordan Quinn with Kiran Lynch similar on the left.
The second period like the first was limited to long range shots that both keepers were comfortable with.
The third period was a different ball game as the game was getting stretched with the heat playing it's part in a very even contest as both teams tried to play in the correct manner and spirit. The coaches made a few changes and this paid dividends in the goal department with Dominic Jay and Ben all scoring in the final period.
Coach Iain Rennie said " The lads have played better this season and can do much better but again applied themselves well and worked hard as a team even though we looked a bit disjointed at times today.
Well done to both teams for a good even game of football and the conditions suited the spectators more than the players".
