Queen's 13s entertained Stirling Albion on Friday evening at Williamwood High School in their fourth league encounter of the season. All the players from both teams were looking forward to the match and continuing with a positive approach this season.
The game started at a frantic pace with both teams testing each other's defence in the early stages of the match. Queen's did struggle a bit with the pace of the opposition and was an evenly contested match but with few clear cut chances.
Ross Mercer the Queen's goalkeeper did pick the ball out the net from a well taken free kick which was needlessly conceded.
Ryan Smith and Ben Mulholland did cause Stirling's defence a few problems with their superb link up play up front. Jaimie Gallagher and Chris Scott were marshaling the central midfield berth and James Beattie with Jordan Quinn stretching the opposition on both flanks. Ryan and Ben deservedly took their chances well in the first period that their effort and skill deserved.
The second period was the best the lads had played all season as the coaches challenged them to make better use of the passing game and encouraged them to play much closer to Stirling Albion in the centre of the field.
Queen's created further chances in the second and third periods with strikers Ryan Smith and Ben Mulholland scoring with well taken opportunities.
Overall the coaches were pleased with a disciplined display of controlled football which can only get better with lots of hard work on the training field.
Coach Andy Gilmartin said 'We played some excellent passing football and scored excellent goals with some eye catching performances on the day and continue with our philosophy of positive attacking football. Well done to both teams for a very competitive match'.
