The 13s played Dumbarton at Lesser Hampden today.
Queen's 13's welcomed Dumbarton to a very wet Lesser Hampden. The playing surface was excellent and on a day like today we were all fortunate to play when SPL games were postponed due to water logged pitches. The squad who have developed well so far this season were all looking forward to the game as last week the game was re-scheduled due to the Hampden climb.
The lads started the game very positively and were passing the ball with purpose and created several scoring chances in the first period and dominated possession in each area of the pitch. There was a good shape and balance to the team from the start and the 13s were enjoying long periods with the ball. Queen's created several scoring chances with young Jay Hudson grabbed 3 and Jaimie Gallagher 1 with 1 goal disallowed for off side.
The second and third period saw Queen's lose their grip on the game when Dumbarton shut them down and came right back into the match. The transformation from the first period to the second and third was very disappointing as the coaches asked the players to continue where they left off in a scintillating first 30 minutes.
Queen's did pick up a few injuries with Jack Caven and Liam Reid having to come off with injuries so hope they are both OK for next week!
There is a long way to go and hope the youngsters learn that playing well for 30 minutes in a game that lasts 90 is not what the coaching staff are looking for.
Andy Gilmartin coach said "We started the game very well today and you could see the boys have developed in a short period of time but there is so much work to be done and hope the kids realise that hard work and the correct attitude will help them all along on their football education"
Well done to both teams today especially in the cold wet conditions.
