Queen's Park v Stranraer

Queen's welcomed Stranraer to a scorching sunny day on the magnificent Lesser Hampden surface and were all looking forward to the match.

Queen's started brightly enough and quickly got into an attacking groove with numerous attempts at goal without much success.

Stranraer were dangerous on the break but in reality Queen's should have scored on more than 1 occasion but lacked the killer touch and picking the correct decision in the final third.

Ben Mulholland did take one our many chances with a lofted shot high into the roof of the net from the edge of the box. The heat was playing a massive part in the game as the tempo quickly dropped to almost walking pace and the 13s made several changes so that the players had a breather.

The second period started similar to the first but again Queen's finishing in front of goal wasn't up to their usual high standards and decision making on the ball was questionable.

This was disappointing as the coaches had worked on finishing at training and will need to revisit this.

Jaimie Gallagher did finish off a good move down our right flank from a neat cut back from Dom Boland and this wasn't more than the boys deserved.

A bit of slackness in the Queen's defence gifted Stranraer a goal which again was disappointing and has been an area the youngsters need to focus on improving.

The third period was pretty open with both teams having chances but it was Queen's who took the initiative with young James Brysland notching a double with good finishes inside the penalty area.

Coach Andy Gilmartin commented "We have set ourselves high standards throughout the season but today was disappointing but the high temperatures played a part today so it's back to the drawing board for midweek training. Well done in tricky conditions".
