St Johnstone v Queen's Park

Queen's headed north again this week to Perth to play a strong St Johnstone team and the boys were looking forward to the challenge after a good performance last week. The coaches had been working on defending better as a unit and set plays and pressing the ball higher up the pitch.

The first period started lively enough with both teams passing the ball across the 2nd gen astro using the width of the park to good effect but both defences were on top.

Both goalkeepers had little to do as most of the game was played in front of them and the final ball was lacking in the wet conditions.

St Johnstone controlled most of the possession in the early stages but the Queen's lads battled away against much stronger players and tried to pass when in possession.

The second period Queen's made a few changes and sparked some life into the game and pushed further up the pitch with more possession with most of the game played in the central areas of the pitch.

Jay Hudson had a few chances with good runs at the St Johnstone defence but the goalkeeper did well.

Queen's did concede with a long ball over our defence and indecision between the defence and goalkeeper.

The boys did respond after this disappointment and scored from a set play when Ryan Clark latched onto the ball after a scramble in the box from a corner kick to level the score.

The third period was again very even with both teams pushing forward and battling for every ball but the pace of the game did slow down as the big pitch was beginning to tell on the legs.

Coach Andy Gilmartin commented "There were few clear chances but plenty of positives to take from the performance and we didn't concede from a set play which was encouraging considering the height advantage of the opposition. Well done to both teams for a tough and entertaining football match".
