Queen of the South v Queen's Park

The 13s headed south this week to play a strong Queen of the South team at Kingholm Park on a lovely sunny but windy day. The boys were looking forward to the match but due to a couple of regulars missing two 12's,Niall Sheridan and Robbie Martin were drafted in.

The lads started brightly enough as we tried to get our passing going but QOSouth were pressing all over the park which made it difficult for our players.

There wasn't much in the way of clear cut chances and our opponents were much taller and stronger than our lads but we stood our ground especially in midfield where Chris Scott and Stephen Caw were battling away.

Similar to our previous games we lacked the killer ball or finish in front of goal but our defence was solid for most of the game.

Second period was our best spell of possession and were unlucky not to score with excellent build up play down both flanks with Niall Sheridan and James Beattie as well as Liam and Dom stretching QOSouth's defence to the limit. Again our final ball let us down which has been a recurring theme last few games - we need to work harder to rectify on the training field.

Third period was pretty even as the game swung from one end to the other with both teams trying to get a goal. James Beattie had a good shot saved. Then Ben Mulholland almost scored directly from a corner kick which was pushed onto the bar by the keeper then cleared off the line.

Ross Mercer made a point blank save when exposed at the back post . We lost a cheap goal when a cross from the right was spilled onto the path of an opposition striker for a simple tap in. This was disappointing considering the amount of possession we had in the game dominating for long spells.

Coach Andy Gilmartin commented "Considering we were missing some players the boys did themselves proud with a good performance and passed the ball well against a strong QOSouth side. So well done to all the players".
