Today Queen's entertained Cowdenbeath at Williamwood High school in a league game that was switched from Rosyth but was very entertaining for all the coaches and spectators in the rain.
Queen's, who were confident going into their second test of the season, were looking forward to developing the new squad and rotating the players.
Queen's started the game very well at a good tempo and were controlling possession in midfield with Chris Scott and Jaimie Gallagher pulling the strings. Both teams created chances and the goalkeepers were called into action and had to be on their toes.
Cowdenbeath did get in behind Queen's defence with their pace up top and the 13s had to adjust positions to counter this and hope the players realise this themselves going forward. Louie Brodie who played further forward today scored a well taken goal starting the move himself and finished with a good strike.
The 13s also conceded 2 preventable goals that will need to work on at training especially 1v1's and defending our penalty box.
The second period started brightly enough and the changes made had an immediate impact as Queen's began to dominate possession and controlled the game better and created several chances with good build up and patterns of play.
Ryan Smith and Stephen Caw and Dominic Boland causing the opposition problems and were asking questions of Cowdenbeath's defence.
James Beattie and Ben Mulholland were linking up top and working in between the midfield and defence to good effect. Other goal scorers were David Brownlie and James Beattie.
The third period was as entertaining as the previous two. Queen's changed formation introducing fresh legs in the form of Chris Scott who also scored after the coaches went for a more positive 1-4-3-3 formation.
Coach Ross Paterson commented 'We passed the ball well for periods in the game and always carried a goal threat up front, but need to tighten up in defence as lost goals that were preventable. Well done to both teams for an entertaining match'.
