Elgin City v Queen's Park

Queen's 13's took the long journey north to play Elgin City and were looking forward to the trip and game. We set off early Sunday morning and couldn't have picked a better day weather wise but we had to draft in some 12's players to compliment our skeleton squad. Keith our Geordie driver was in good spirits and reminded us on more than 1 occasion that Newcastle were back in the promised land!

Queen's started the first period in 1st gear and struggled with the tempo of play as Elgin were pressing the ball all over the pitch. Queen's were trying to find their feet on the grass pitch.

With several regulars missing the 13s never had the same fluency in possession but worked hard to match the opposition. Young Ross McCallion cleared from inside our box to an advancing Elgin midfield player who had time to take a touch and loft a shot over Ross Mercer in goal without any pressure on the ball which was disappointing.

The second and third periods belonged to Queen's as they made several changes to freshen things up and several well taken goals followed as the 13s found their range of passing and stretched the opposition by switching play and penetrating in wide areas.

A special mention goes to the 3 12's who were excellent and were a credit to their coaches and team mates and never looked out of place throughout the long trip as well as David Brownlie who also helped out.

Coach Ross Patterson commented "The coaches were pleased with the attacking play but were disappointed to lose a goal from the edge of the box as we have all been working hard on the training field to prevent this but overall lots of positives to take from the trip and game, well done".
