Despite a week of torrential rain in most parts of the country, the Under 14’s enjoyed a trip north through the Cairngorm mountains to face Elgin at Lossiemouth where the weather was dry and sunny !
With a reduced squad due to injury and illness, the boys went about their business from the kick off – passing the ball on the grass surface with confidence and ease. Elgin defended well in the early stages despite being under consistent pressure down the flanks where Vincent Newlands and David Ramsay were a constant threat. A good move was finished off with some excellent individual skill by Vincent followed by an assured strike from Gerald O’Donnell which gave the goalkeeper little chance.
The two goal cushion allowed the team to take control of the match during the second period and the boys put into practice many of the points which they had worked on in training in the week prior. The coaches were delighted with some of the passages of play. Another goal from Vincent, two more from Gerald and a single strike from David McDonald reflected the possession and pressure we enjoyed. Gerald is making hat-tricks a habit!
The most pleasing aspect was the way the team all worked hard in their given roles and were focused on their performance. A "good day at the office".
Coach Murray Crouch said "A long trip and a good test of character which was answered positively by the boys. Once again we look forward to training in mid-week".
