Sunday 4th October 2009
On a bright sunny autumn afternoon, the 14s travelled just short of Loch Lomond for this week’s Youth Initiative match.
A grass surface was the main change following a long period of working on astro-turf, but credit to the boys for continuing to play the passing game.
Shaping up with one advanced striker and one 'shadow' striker meant a slightly different approach and the game began at a lively pace, with Queen’s having a shot on target within the first minute of the game.
The game was fairly open and went from end to end. One of the best passing moves of the game ended when Queen’s scored with a fine strike by James Marr following a good lay-off.
There were chances at both ends in an exciting, open contest. Dumbarton got themselves back level with a well taken goal which caught us on our heels.
However Queen's were ahead once more soon after when Vinnie Bryson was tripped in the penalty box. Gerald O’Donnell made no mistake from the spot.
The boys then worked hard to maintain the initiative but found Dumbarton in no mood to give up. Once again they managed to force an equaliser and the contest ended all square.
The coaches were pleased once again with the boys’ application and it was good to have David Brownlie and Ryan Smith from the Under 13 squad taking part in the game. Well done everyone!
Coach George Watson said 'The boys adapted well to the conditions and impressed at times. Dumbarton were worthy opponents. We look forward to working hard to improve in some areas at this week’s training sessions'.
