The 15s played Elgin City at Lesser Hampden today.
Queen's Park 15’s welcomed Elgin City to Lesser Hampden for the fourth game of the season. As part of player development Queen's adopted an attacking formation of 1-4-3-3.
The match started well for the 15s with some early opportunities being created. Queen's opened the scoring with a good strike from Lawrence Shankland. The 15s were having the majority of the possession although there were some frustrations as Elgin were getting players behind the ball.
Gary Duggan however did utilise any space that was given by scoring as the first half came to an end. The coaches stressed the importance of opening the play and for the full backs to push on further up the park as to unbalance Elgin’s formation.
This evidently worked as gaps were beginning open up for players to exploit. Queen's demonstrated their dominance with control of most aspects of play.
The third period was very similar as Elgin who had worked tirelessly throughout began to tire. Further goals from Gary Duggan, Lawrie McKay and Lawrence Shankland were to follow as Queen's continued to maintain a good tempo to their play.
Queens Park coach Gerry O’Kane commented 'This was a good performance as we adapted to a new formation and the players adjusted well to this shape. Our play was direct throughout and our full backs had plenty of the ball whilst we maintained good discipline at the back.
Good support play was also evident from our midfielders assisting our strikers who were clinical in front of goal. Although not on the score sheet Kieran Tolland received praise for his performance today as he linked the play from defence to strikers ensuring good possession…well done Kieran'.
The coaches, players and all at Queen's Park F.C wish Craig Johnstone and Raymond Lynch a full recovery from a horrific incident whilst playing against Rangers at Murray Park last Tuesday night. Raymond is well on the road to recovery which is good news. It’s very pleasing to inform you that Craig has now been released from hospital after under going surgery on a serious head knock. We will all assist Craig, in every way we can, during his period of rehabilitation.
