Sunday 4th October 2009
Queen's Park 15s were up early on a Sunday morning as they began their journey away to Stranraer. It was a beautiful afternoon for game of football and the playing surface was in good condition.
Queen’s started the game well and created the early chances. This was a good period of play with good combination play especially on the right side where Gavin Mitchell and Alex Grier were seeing a lot of the ball.
A series of good opportunities were being created but frustratingly for Queen's there nobody on the end of these chances. Cross after cross was being swung in but to the relieve of the team Lawrence Shankland was on hand to convert into a goal.
The second period was not similar to the first half as Queen's passing began to fade and Stranaer were having more of the ball. A few chances were created as both teams play was continually being broken up.
The third period was as similar to the second with no team taking full control of the game until Connor McGuiness found himself in space to round the keeper to slot home. This spurred Queen's on with further goals added in the closing moments of the game.
Queen's coaches commented "Credit most go to their central defence who defended their goal very well though we must do better in the final third as many chances were being created especially in the first period. It was very pleasing to have young Daniel Smith from our U14s making his debut. It was a competent and performance so well done Daniel".
