Queen's Park v Partick Thistle

A great day for a game of football saw the two Glasgow rivals set out to put on a great show at Lesser Hampden. Queen's had a game the day before which was a tough test. Would they be able to cope with two games in two days?

Right from the start Queen's kept the ball moving with one and two touch passing making Thistle hunt the ball down. The boys were really dictating the play just like the coaches tell them to every week!

The deadlock was broken when Ryan Moore made a long clearance from the back which caught the Partick defence out.  Chris Gebbie was the first to react, latching onto the ball on the right side of the penalty area. He then coolly approached the keeper before cutting the ball back for Kyle Macbeth to slot the ball in to an empty net.

With this goal Queen's grew in confidence, pressuring Partick at every opportunity. Number two was added when Gary Duggan weaved his way in and out two Thistle defenders on the right side of the box. He then cut inside striking the ball in to the top left hand corner. A great goal!

The final goal of the half was added when Robert Whelan opened up the play from the left to right. He made a 20 yard pass to Ryan McGeever in space who with great vision and skill picked out a 40 yard pass in behind the Partick Thistle defence, leaving Gary Duggan one on one with the keeper. The young striker shifted the ball to his left hand side and put the ball in the exact same place as he did for his last goal.

At half time the boys were told not to drop the tempo and to keep on using the width of the park as it was causing Thistle problems.

As the second half began Queen's looked as if they were going to continue on to what was a great first half. However, Partick showed great determination to try and get back in to the game with a ten minute spell putting Queen's under a bit of pressure. The back four coped with this well and neither Kieran Hughes nor Craig Gordon were really called into action.

The boys got back into the game and managed to press Thistle back. The constant pressure told when a strong pass from a Partick defender was misjudged by the keeper and the ball rolled into the net.

Shortly after Queen's forward Frankie Kameni powered through the Partick defence slotting the ball by the keeper. Another great goal!

Queen's were playing their best football of the season. Another goal came when Robert Whelan found Willie Boyd with a long pass which left him to run through on goal. He squared the ball across the box and Kyle Macbeth was there to finish.

Queen's central midfielder Robert Whelan commented "Not only did the boys perform well today but also yesterday. We are really enjoying our football just now which also helps us learn more about the game. Special mention to Gary Duggan who has been on fire for the past few weeks. Well done lads keep up the great work!".
