Tonight the 17s travelled through to play Hearts 17s at their Riccarton facility at Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh. What a fantastic facility they have and with this being a daunting place how would our young guns perform?
Fortunate the boys had the comfort that Director of Technical Development, Andy McGlennan, made the long journey through to support them.
The 17s started brightly and got into their passing style quickly. They were showing promising things down both wings and had numerous crosses from this area.
With about ten minutes played Queen's managed to open the scoring. Good play and cross from Owen Ronald with Keiran Blackwood almost finishing but with opposite winger following up with another cross Stevie Hepburn managed to put his head in to score. This was no more that the 17s deserved and and could have scored a few more as they took the game on with some intelligent passing play and creative thoughts.
Queen's weren't able to add any more goals in this half. Half-time 1-0 to Queen's.
Into the second with only the goal keepers changed Queen's quickly settled into the game. After 10min a treble substitution was made and the coaches changed the shape of the team. This caused Hearts a major headache and Queen's took advantage to score a second. After good play from Owen Ronald, cross come shot from Keiran Blackwood and Keiran Kennedy was on hand to knock the ball in at the back post - a good sweeping move.
With this extra goal, the confidence was oozing through the boys and Queen's added another shortly after. A free kick the ball was clipped in to box for Danny Hepburn to control and stick away.
Queen's seemed to now be playing more open football and kept flying forward with the back four playing a superb style they coped with this added pressure.
Like coach Paul Ronald's ever growing family size, number four soon came along. A good driving run from centre mid Mark Davis who then played Keiran Kennedy in for his second with a cool finish.
No more goals followed and was also pleasing to see the defence get another clean sheet which they deserved with their discipline and desire not to concede.
Coach Paul Ronald commented 'A super result and performance against a strong and well organised Hearts team. All the boys deserve credit for their own performance and the way they conducted themselves a pleasure to watch the kids tonight'.
