Rangers 2-1 Queen's Park

The 17s travelled once again to Murray Park to take on Rangers. They had to travel without four players who started on Sunday due to their exams studies. This allowed others to start and gave the opportunity to invite Conner McVey up from the 16s and give a trialist a game.

Both teams started the game well and passed the ball about the pitch looking for chances, Rangers two strikers were holding the ball up and making super runs, especially the player from their 19s squad.

On five minutes a long through ball and good strong running from this player found him one on one, Grant Hay, Queen's goalkeeper, advanced allowing the striker to lob ball into empty net. A poor goal for Queen's to loose as they had started so well. However they dusted themselves down and went at Rangers again.

Within two minutes the 17s had equalised. This came courtesy of a penalty after a Rangers defender tried to exchange shirts with one of the Queen's players, Kieran Blackwood, got to the ball and converted 1 1.

This was no more that what Queen's deserved but they still had to be aware of the Rangers strikers movement. Although Queen's were coping well with the Rangers threat and the defence line was good.

Queen's did however lose a goal from this. A long ball over the top and the Rangers striker who scored the first found himself one v one again and he converted.

With this Queen's lost their way for a good ten minutes, but composed themselves to get to half time without any further goals.

Into the second half and with Rangers making most of the running the Queen's defence had to be on the money. This they were doing well with only passing letting them down.

Queen's seemed content in mopping the pressure up and working on the counter and with this they created what was to be their best chance of the half. Good wing play from Owen Ronald skipping past two players and playing Daniel Hepburn in one v one. With two players making good movement for the cut back, Danny decided to shoot and the ball squeezed past the post.

Queen's e created a couple of half chances after that and sustained even more pressure from Rangers. No more goals scored and the game finished 2 1 to Rangers.

Coach Paul Ronald commented after the game "The boys can take credit for performing while under strength but we must look to retain the ball better".
