19s squad

Sunday 28th February 2010

Queen's Park 4-1 Airdrie United

The 17s with no league fixture managed to organise a friendly with Airdrie today at Lesser Hampden. We would be missing a number of boys who had been called up to the 19s game today. This would allow trialist and the rest of the boys a good opportunity to get decent playing time given that we would only have a squad of 13 today.

The boys started of well and passed the ball around at ease. They created a good few opportunities but found themselves under pressure as Airdrie forced their game onto them with them creating a few opportunities to test the Queen's defence.

With this Airdrie managed to break the 17s resolve and scored.

The Queen's boys pushed to get a response and came close on numerous occasions but the half finished 1-0 to Airdrie.

Once again the boys needed a wake up call and a few fresh changes. This worked as Queen's dominated the proceedings in the second half.

All that was needed now was a goal. This came after great play from Thomas Denholm who thundered the ball on the angle across the goalkeeper into the bottom corner.

Again you could see a spring in the boys step and they created more. It wasn't long until the 17s got the second. Alan Urquhart smashing one into the top corner from 25yard after controlling the ball on his chest.

The third came again from Thomas Denholm from 20yards after fine mid field play and good lay of from Kieran Blackwood.

The game was now out of sight but Queen's still had time to force another after a Jordan McGuire cross was knocked home by an Airdrie defender.

Coach Paul Ronald commented "The boys can take credit for turning in a good second half performance but it also highlighted we could cope without the number of boys not available today".
