The 17s traveled out to Lennoxtown to take on Celtic 17s squad. It was a freezing night and with the pitch icy was at times a bit dangerous, none the less the football on show was very good.
The Queen's boys took the game to Celtic and enjoyed chunks of possession and it wasn't a surprise with one of Queen's forward movements resulted in a penalty being awarded to the 17s after only 5min, Daniel Hepburn being fouled. Danny took the penalty but unfortunately failed to score.
This was disappointing but the boys didn't let it affect them and still where enjoying a lot of the ball. Queen's created a few more chances in the half but unfortunately they couldn't convert. With this though Celtic also threatened and hit the cross bar with one of their efforts.
The half finished 0-0 with Queen's been the better team by far.
Into the second half and it was a tighter affair. Celtic put more pressure on the Queen's back line, but they coped well. Queen's did however still cause Celtic problems with their forward running, only the final pass or finnish was missing.
With only 10 minutes to play Queen's pushed to get a deserved winner for their play. This did leave their back line more exposed but as they had been coping well throughout the coaches didn't see this changing,
Unfortunate for Queen's a long ball over the top found the Queen's goalkeeper in two minds and the Celtic striker nipped it off his toes to roll into empty net with only 5min to play.
This was disappointing and undeserved especially as Paul Kancaya had been in fine form. Still Queen's had to try and push for a goal, breaking forward as much as they could, forcing Celtic to defend.
Again with seconds to play Queen's lost another on the counter.
Coach Paul Ronald commented after the game "Overall we are disappointed with the result. But to play away from home and enjoy so much of the ball putting our style onto Celtic, the boys have to be pleased with their efforts tonight. They have done Queen's Park proud".
