The 17s entertained Arbroath at Lesser Hampden today significantly under strength with 5 players unavailable due to differing circumstances. This will call on the players to show a higher fitness levels than normal.
The game was played in perfect conditions and early on Queen's looked in the mood, only poor finishing and good goalkeeping was stopping the young guys scoring, with that the woodwork helped also.
The style was fine for the boys and Queen's had to keep focusing on this and try overcome a strong defence, unfortunate for Queens the half finished 0 0.
The second half started with more of the same and Queen's created opportunities to get in front but again the Arbroath defence and particular their goalkeeper in inspired form. Could they hold out and could Queen's deal with any counters?
Queen's had on occasion their hearts in their mouth as a counter from Arbroath looked as if it might snatch it the longer the game went. However justice was Queen's not losing but an injustice at the fact they couldn't put the game to bed.
Coach Paul Ronald commented "The boys must take great credit in performing to a high standard again with only the finishing product letting us down. It would be concerning to all if we didn't create so we must take this a huge positive in their development".
