Queen's Park 6-1 Clyde

Back to league business for the 17s tonight and their first game of the new decade at a foggy Lesser Hampden. The opposition were Clyde who were lying mid-table. It would be interesting to see how the boys performed given that they have only managed two training sessions since a week before Christmas. In addition we also needed to rest two of the younger boys who had been away to Portugal.

Any concern we had got blown away as the boys clicked right into their tempo creating numerous opportunities right away and managed to score early on through Kieran Blackwood after a super pass from Jordan McGuire.

It didn't take long to increase this lead. A teasing cross again from McGuire. This time Kieran laid the ball of to edge of the box for Luke Whelan to smash the ball high into the top corner from 18yards.

The 17s were in full flow now. Wave after wave of attacks crashed onto the Clyde back line. Some of the creative play was outstanding. None more so than the third goal. A superb run from Steven Hepburn and an even better pass from Whelan found Heppy with goal keeper to beat. He coolly rounded the goal keeper and tapped the ball home for number three.

The half time score line allowed the coaches to make numerous changes and juggle the team. This as expected as an impact on the play but the boys found their feet quickly and soon scored a fourth. Superb wing play from Denholm resulting in no fewer than four one twos with Tam thundering the ball home from a tight angle into top of the net.

This was fitting for Thomas as not only had he played excellently, it was also his birthday today (Happy birthday Thomas from all at Queen's).

The 17s now lost a little of their shape as they all seemed to want into the scoring act. The fifth goal was pleasing for the coaches as it came from a set piece with Ross Barbour heading home.

Slackness crept into the latter part of game allowing Clyde getting a consolation goal. But credit to the Queen's side as they where determined not to finnish on a sour note. A sixth goal came through Daniel Hepburn. A super pass from Kennedy setting his strike partner up.

Coach Paul Ronald commented "All in all an enjoyable game in foggy cold conditions with some excellent football and six different goal scorers from Queen's".
