Queen's Park 4-0 Peterhead

Queens 17s played Peterhead today at Lesser Hampden. The young Hampden squad were eager to continue with their winning run after beating Clyde 6-1 on Friday night.

Friday hangover? That was the question from the coaches before today's game with Peterhead, every other time the 17s play on a Friday they follow it up with a poor performance on Sunday. They have lost 5 points in the past from that so have the boys adapted and learnt?

Interview with coach Paul Ronald before the match

The answer could be no in the extent of the style and performance but yes in that they done enough to win the game.

At the beginning of the game Queen's created a few super opportunities and really should have been three goals up early which would have helped the boys enjoy the game.

However it took until 25min before the 17s managed to score. A good through ball from Jordan McGuire to Kieran Blackwood who raced toward goal and unselfishly rolled to Stephen Hepburn to tap the ball home.

They scored another so after this with the same sort of ball and run, this time Owen Ronald shot was saved only for Keiran Blackwood to shoot home.

With Peterhead playing a very high line Queen's found themselves getting numerous opportunities. They did though make the wrong choices and got called offside once to often.

The coaches had a plan to change at half time but felt disappointed with the performance in first half. They gave the boys time to make amends.

This they did and at least the coaches can be happy with that. It did however take until 10min before full time to get the third goal. It came from a corner to front area for Mark Davies to squeeze the ball home.

Two min later Queen's scored the final and fourth goal. A quick free from Alan Urquart finding Kieran Blackwood in space. Kieran coolly control on his chest and side footed ball into corner from just inside the box.

It was great to finish on a good move from a quiet game.

Coach Paul Ronald commented "All in all pleased for the back four in having a clean sheet and the three points. Unhappy with our style today and the slackness in all the boys play. Again our Friday hangover hung over them".
