The 17s travelled to Methil, on the road to Windygates, which was an appropriate name today, given the strength of the wind, to take on East Fife. The game was played on a park which had a bigger slope than the old Easter Road pitch.
This was to prove a tough test for the young 17s and it wasn't helped that they managed to get lost and arrived 30 min before kick off!
The game got under way on time and it was evident not a lot of football was going to be played as both teams found it difficult to pass and play. Queen's tried as best they could but four passes seemed the maximum they could muster against a strong wind and steep hill.
After 30 minutes Queen's found themselves 1-0 down. A long diagonal ball over the top of the Queen's defence and the East Fife forward tucked the loose ball away.
Not much else happened up to the break. Taken the conditions aside, the Queen's coaches were disappointed with the standard of play shown in the first half. A few well chosen words and change of personnel and shape was needed.
The boys embraced the second half and from the referees whistle took the 45 minutes by storm. Queen's scored their first after good wide play from Owen Ronald and Kieran Kennedy firing the ball across the 6 yard box. The first effort was missed but it fell to Daniel Hepburn to tap home.
Three minutes later Queen's scored number two. A shot from distance from Steven Hepburn brought the East Fife goalkeeper into action and from the rebound Ross Barbour tapped home - 2 1 to the 17s.
The boys then pushed for the killer third goal, making the East Fife goalkeeper work hard and also hitting the woodwork. Queen's managed to seal the win right on full time with a turn and shot from Daniel Hepburn which caught the goal keeper by surprise.
Coach Paul Ronald commented ' A decent work out under tough conditions. This we can use as valuable experience and we can take great credit in dealing with it all and coming out on top'.
