Queen's Park 0-0 Dumbarton

The 17s opened their SFL League campaign with a home match against Dumbarton at Lesser Hampden tonight. Queen's beat Dumbarton 4-2 in the corresponding game last season. Could we expect more of the same?

From the first whistle Queen's got into their passing game and took control of the game. The boys created numerous opportunities to score and the combination play, at times, was a joy to watch.

The efforts on goal at times where excellent. Unfortunately for the 17s the Dumbarton goalkeeper was in super form, denying Queen's on many occasions. The 17s didn't help with some poor finishing but their ideas in front of goal were fantastic - incredible that the half finished 0 0.

With no changes made at the break Queen's stuck to their game plan. But with some players tiring after their efforts in the first half, the pace dropped a little. However Queen's still created chances when going forward.

When the 17s had a little blip it was interesting to see how the defence would cope considering they had virtually no defending to speak of in the first period. The answer was they coped well enough, restricting their opponents to long range efforts.

Frustrating is the main word tonight as even late on Queen's created numerous chances to win the game but found bad luck, poor choices, good defending and an inspired goal keeper got the better of their efforts with game ending in a 0 0 draw.

Coach Paul Ronald commented 'The boys played super football at times which is very encouraging but we are all disappointed as the final result felt like a defeat to the kids' .
