Morton 0-4 Queen's Park

Queen's 17s travelled down the motorway to play Morton. It was a beautiful drive in a glorious sunny conditions and highlighted Scotland's fantastic scenery. That was until you step out the car at Gourock on the banks of the Clyde and that cold snappy wind hits you.

None the less there was a job to be done and the 17s didn't waste any time in getting this game started as they found themselves 2 up after only 10min.

The first coming from a Jordan McGuire cross for Stephen Hepburn to time his run to perfection and tap ball home.

The second came from the other Hepburn, Daniel, a driving run and shot across the goalkeeper.

This was like game over and we can go home but Queen's still had loads of time to play. With this the boys tried to keep the game flowing but they then found their passing not to its usual standard although they still peppered the Morton goal.

Heading into half time Queen's got awarded a penalty for hand ball. As Mark Davies had the shot blocked the ball was passed to him. Unfortunate for Mark the goalkeeper guessed correct and saved the penalty.

Into the second half and with the wind now at their backs Queen's expected the flood gates to open. However they found with the slackness now in their game, passing was skipping out of play more often than not. With the Queen's defence having very little to deal the majority of the game was being played in Morton half of the park.

It was inevitable Queen's would score and it came from an opportunist strike from Daniel Hepburn from 30yards catching the goalkeeper by surprise.

Could Queen's push on and score some more? The boys tried and bar some good goalkeeping and last ditch defending they should have scored a good few more.

We had to wait till the last minute to score a beauty. Good link up play down the right from Owen Ronald and Luke Whelan with the latter who scored a cracker last week stepped up again and hit a 25yard screamer to finnish the game with a bit of style and add some gloss to a drab game.

Coach Paul Ronald commented "All in all a tough exercise in the respect the boys need to try and play to their normal standard for 90min and not just 10. They should be able take this game on board and to learn from it".
