Dundee 4-2 Queen's Park

After our good start to the season, Queen's travelled to Dundee in a confident mood and almost a full squad with the exception of the injured Nadeen and the absent Baillie due to personal reasons.

The 19s started slowly and found it difficult to play their usual passing game on the surface. However Queen's settled and were having the better of the procession. They were unfortunate not to score when Afzal got on the end of a cut back from Morton down the right.

Queen's were caught out after 35 minutes after some sloppy defender allowed the Dundee leftsider to delivery for their striker to volley home from the edge of the box giving McPherson no chance. Worse was to follow on the stroke of half time with defenders claiming off side Dundee doubled the score after McPherson clearance came off the striker and rolled into the net. - Half time Dundee 2 – Queen’s 0.

It was important for Queen's to get the next goal to get them back into the game and after making all the running and missing several chances they finally got the break through that they deserved. After the hour mark Morton out stripped their central defence to lob the keeper.

Now Queen's were on the front foot with Murney and O’Hara getting to the bye line time and time again the equalisers had to come.

However Dundee stretched their lead after catching the 19s on the break from one of their corners. Worse was to follow when again the leftsider delivered and the Dundee striker sent a great header to top corner to make it 4-1.

Afzal made 4-2 in the dying minutes.

The Queen's team was: G. McPherson, Green, Gallacher, McGinn, Murney, Barbour, Afzal, Lachlan, O’Hara, Graham and Morton

The subs were: Blockley for Barbour (24 mins), McPherson for Murney (73 mins)

Subs not used were: MacKenzie, Jones, Sinclair & GK Trialist McNulty.

Coach Robert Kelly commented 'Disappointing result after having the bulk of the play in both halves and creating chances without really getting to grips with surface and to be fair to Dundee they took their chances after some slack play from us

We have now taken a game this holiday weekend against Campsie 21s to get us playing on grass as we just did not adjust to the surface yesterday. '.
