Today Queen's travelled to Rosyth to play Dunfermline in their third league game of the season. Last season the 19s managed a 3-2 victory. Would they do the same this season?
Considering that last season the 19s were notoriously slow starters, one of the pleasing aspects so far this season was the fact that Queens' were starting games well. This was reinforced with Nadeen striking home after ninety seconds direct from a free kick twenty five yards from goal.
Queen's then built on this and after 13mins Green got in at the back post from a excellent delivery from McPherson corner kick to make it two.
The 19s were now controlling the game with the front players causing all sorts of problems for the home defence. Queen's were rewarded with the third right on half time. Morton latched on to defence splitting pass from Lachlan to give the home keeper no chance from twelve yards. Half time 3-0 to Queen’s.
In the second half Queen's never got going and allowed the home team back into the game when they allowed a midfield runner to make it 3-1 after 52mins.
This gave the home team a lifeline that they really didn’t deserve after being out played in the first period. For the next fifteen minutes it was now end to end with chances at both ends.
However with twenty minutes to go Morton was making his way through the home defence when he was upended right at the edge of the box and up stepped Nadeem to wrong foot the keeper direct from the free kick to restore our three goal lead.
However some slack play allowed the opponents a life line. Again their striker got in at the back post to make it 4-2. Before Queen's got started again Dunfermline caught Queen's napping as their striker managed to get along the bye line, evading two tackles, to score from the tightest of angles - once again it was game on with ten minutes to play.
Queen's finally settled down and good play down the right with a fine cross coming in from McPherson allowed Nadeen to bullet the ball goal bound only for the keeper to make a fine and as good strikers do Morton was there in to knock in the rebound. Full Time 5-3 to Queen’s
The Queen's team was: G.McPherson, Baillie, Gallacher, Green, R.McPherson, Blockley, Lachlan, O’Hara, McCrone, Nadeem & Morton,
The subs were: Barbour for McCrone(31mins), Murney for Blockley(70mins) & McGowan for R.McPherson(86mins).
Subs not used were: MacKenzie & Chamberlain.
Coach Robert Kelly commented 'Another good first half performance away from home to lead three nil at the break. However as in the previous game we took the foot off the gas in the second half and had battle all the way to the finish'.
