Airdrie United 2-0 Queen's Park

This is the fixture that Queen's have been preparing for in recent weeks and they knew they would have to battle to take anything from the game. The 19s went into the game minus two of their most influence players with Baillie injured and O’Hara unwell.

Queen's started game well and for 25 minutes dominated the game missing several chances to score with Henry going close three times and Hangula unlucky when, after chasing down their centre back, he nipped before the keeper got to him only to see his effort clear off the line.

The turning point in game that gave Airdrie a lift when, after 27mins, Queen's created a great chance with Murney on the right who got to the byeline, picked out Hangula who blasted over from 8yds.

Gradually Airdrie crept in to game and Queen's were fortunate to be level at half time with McPherson having two outstanding saves.

The team talk at the interval was about standing up to our opponents who had out fought us after we had started the game well, the second period we had to win our personal battles and take the game to our opponents.

Unfortunately this did not happen. Airdrie started where they left from the first half and were getting down both flanks with ease and winning the midfield battle. Queen's front line not keeping the ball well enough.

Airdrie broke the deadlock after the hour and slackness from Blockley allowed the striker in with ease to make it one nil.

Worse to follow as they made it two after 65mins after Queen's failed to clear their lines which allowed the Airdrie midfield runner an easy task of passing the ball into the net giving McPherson no chance.

Queen's made changes to their formation going 3-4-3 to try and get something out of the game and were unlucky as the Airdrie keeper had fine saves from Lachlan Henry & Nadeem.

Coach Robert Kelly commented "A real disappointing result after starting the game so well, It’s not often we are outfought or overrun by any opponent. It now means we have an uphill battle to qualify from our section and it’s a must we defeat Clyde this weekend".

Queen's team was: McPherson, Green, Blockley, McGinn, Murney, R.Barbour, Lachlan, F.Barbour, Morton, Henry & Hangula

The subs; Nadeen for Hangula(63mins), Ronald for Murney(68mins) & Blackwood for R.Barbour(68mins)

Suns not used: Hay
