Queen's Park Ladies scored a superb late winner to knock Hearts Ladies out of the League Cup, in extra time, at Woodfarm School. Jennie Condie showed magnificent technique, allowing the ball to bounce outside the penalty area, before striking a 20 yard volley over the keeper and into the net. The goal was a deserved reward for Spiders, who turned round a 1-0 half time deficit to book their place in the next round.
Playing into a strong wind in the first half Queen's Park battled hard against a physical Hearts team. Despite their disadvantage, Spiders created a number of first half chances with Condie and Cameron combining well down the right. Spence and Simpson caused a number of problems for the Hearts defence and the two combined well to create a great chance for Spence who shot wide. With Ferriter looking assured in her new role at centre half, Queen's were rarely troubled at the back. However, when Cameron needlessly gave away a free kick, it enabled the Jambos to take advantage of the wind with a free shot at goal. Hearts duly took advantage with a powerful strike which Breslin was unable to keep out of the net.
After the interval Spiders passing game began to click. However, despite their dominance, Queens were still not creating enough attempts on goal. Faiella began to ring the chances to freshen up the attack. Clapperton and Carey came on and started running at the tiring Hearts defence from wide areas. With Condie and Scott now pulling the strings in the centre of midfield Queen's started to pressurise the Hearts defence. In 75th Simpson showed great desire to chase the ball to the touchline and out muscle the defender before cutting inside and curling a brilliant shot into the top corner. Inspired by the goal Spiders, threw bodies forward. With Cameron and McMurray also driving forward from full back, Queen's pressed for a second goal but were unable to find it in normal time.
Extra time saw Spiders still in the ascendancy. With Hearts offering little in attack Queen's continued to create chances. With six minutes to go at seemed Hearts might just survive, but then Condie stepped up - and produced her bit of magic to win the game.
Afterwards Stefano Faiella was understandably delighted with the win "This result marks great progress for us. To beat an established first division club and a team that beat us 4-1 pre-season is a magnificent achievement for the girls".
